Report: Real Madrid ‘strongly advised’ to sign Tottenham target

Tottenham Hotspur have been linked with a number of quality players this summer transfer window, despite not yet signing a single new star.

However, if reports are to be believed, Tottenham did lodge a £53m bid for Giovani Lo Celso earlier this month, what would be a club record fee if agreed (BBC).

However, Real Betis are said to have turned down the offer as Lo Celso has a buyout clause of £88m in his current contract at the club.

Sky Sports have reported that Tottenham still remain confident that they can sign the playmaker this summer, although there could be some new competition.

Estadio Deportivo now claim that Jorge Valdano, the new advisor to Real Madrid president Florentino Perez, has strongly recommended the Argentine attacking midfielder.

The report claims that Real Madrid could see Lo Celso as their long-term successor to ex-Tottenham player Luka Modric.

It remains to be seen whether Spurs go in with a second bid before the window shuts.
