Report: Real Madrid to prioritise move for defender if Spurs fail to sign him this month

Real Madrid will target a move for Pedro Porro this summer if the right wing-back remains at Sporting CP beyond the January transfer window, according to Spanish news outlet AS.

Tottenham Hotspur have been heavily linked with a move for the Spanish defender for a number of weeks with the north Londoners said to have held fresh talks with the Portuguese giants on Friday in their attempt to bring him back to England (El Chiringuito TV).

The report claims that Tottenham are still keen to land the 23-year-old before the winter window slams shut, while his former club Manchester City, who have a buy-back clause to complete a return to the Etihad are yet to make their move.

Porro was in action for Sporting on Friday evening and proved to be the matchwinner when he stepped up deep in injury time to take a penalty to send the goalkeeper the wrong way in a 2-1 win against Vizela.

The full-back insisted after the match on Friday that he was ‘happy’ at Sporting despite intense speculation over his future (Cabine Desportiva).

If Real Madrid are indeed interested in Porro, they need to move for him this month or risk the Spaniard being tempted by the lure of a return to his homeland. With greatest respect to Spurs, they would not be able to compete when a move to the Bernabeu beckons.
