Report: Real Sociedad have emerged as front-runners to sign Spurs player

According to Golsmedia, Real Sociedad are now leading the race to sign Tottenham winger Bryan Gil on loan.

On the back of Gil’s impressive showing on loan at Valencia during the second half of last season, Los Che were said to be keen on extending the winger’s stay at the club (AS -30/05/22 via Sport Witness).

Mundo Deportivo reported last month that Valencia could face competition from Real Sociedad for the winger while, according to Fabrizio Romano, Marseille have also expressed an interest in the 21-year-old over recent weeks.

Golsmedia have revealed that Valencia have held talks over re-signing Gil and that returning to the Mestalla was his initial preference.

However, Sociedad have now allegedly emerged as the front-runners to sign the Tottenham man, with Imanol Alguacil’s side said to be ‘the best-placed’ to win the race for the winger.

The report adds that Gil is attracted by the chance to play European football at Sociedad next season and by the project at the club.

However, it is explained that the Spain international has not yet made a final decision and is continuing to assess his options.

I am not surprised that Gil has not returned to Valencia, given that he found himself out of the starting eleven towards the end of last season. The most important consideration for both Spurs and the 21-year-old in deciding his next destination would be getting regular game time.
