Report: Real Sociedad keeping eye on Spurs player for potential loan move

Estadio Deportivo have claimed that Sergio Reguilon’s loan spell at Atletico Madrid could be cut-short in January.

Reguilon only made one appearance during the first part of the 2022-23 season for Atletico after joining the club on loan from Tottenham in the summer, with the left-back being out of action for the first few months of the campaign due to a groin injury.

The 25-year-old made his debut for Diego Simione’s month earlier this month, getting just over 20 minutes under his belt in the Colchoneros’ 1-0 defeat away at Mallorca.

The on-loan Spurs man took to Instagram after the game to admit that he finally felt like a footballer again after being out of action for seven months.

However, Estadio Deportivo have now claimed that Reguilon’s time in the Spanish capital might be cut short. The report states that Atletico are thinking of ‘breaking’ the loan agreement with Spurs and sending the former Real Madrid man back to London.

However, it is explained that the situation is ‘very complicated’ as the Lilywhites are willing to cover the player’s full salary this season.

Estadio Deportivo add that Real Sociedad are attentive to Reguilon’s situation and could push ahead with a loan move for the defender if Atletico send him back to Spurs.

The report also asserts that Antonio Conte’s men do not want the player back in North London ‘under any circumstances’ during the second half of the campaign.

By the sounds of it, Reguilon was not Simeone’s top target in the summer, with Atletico likely settling for the Tottenham man owing to their inability to get Marcus Alonso. So, it would not come as a massive surprise if his loan spell is cut short but the left-back will have no shortage of suitors in Spain.
