Report reveals agent will have huge say in Tottenham’s summer transfer plans

Football Insider have claimed that super-agent Jorge Mendes will be critical to Tottenham Hotspur’s summer plans, with the club set to rely on his connections to pull off deals.

Mendes currently represents Tottenham boss Jose Mourinho, as well as right-back Matt Doherty, and it was reported that the agent was instrumental in the Irishman’s move from Wolves to Spurs in the summer.

Football Insider now claims that Mendes also played a part in Tottenham’s recent acquisitions of Gedson Fernandes and Carlos Vinicius on loan from Benfica.

It is said that Tottenham are unlikely to spend big in the summer due to the financial impact of the pandemic and are likely to look for deals that promise decent value for money.

Mendes’ connections could thus come in handy, with the North London club looking to benefit from the vast stable of players in the agent’s Gestifute agency to strengthen their squad.

The report asserts that owner Joe Lewis wants Spurs to continue being self-sustaining and does not any problems with the club using Mendes to get deals done if it is in Tottenham’s best interest.

Spurs Web Opinion

Irrespective of how much we relied on agents, it is fair to say that Tottenham’s business in last summer’s window cannot be faulted.

While it would have of course been preferable for us to get an experienced centre-back in instead of Joe Rodon, we certainly got very good value for money for the amount we spent.

I suspect the club will be looking to do something similar this summer but we would also have to trim the squad by getting rid of some of our fringe players.
