Report reveals Ange Postecoglou’s plan if deal for Celtic assistant cannot be agreed

The Times have revealed that Ange Postecoglou is first expected to become Tottenham’s head coach and then pursue a similar switch for his assistant John Kennedy, later, if the North London club cannot agree on a deal during current negotiations.

It now appears overwhelmingly likely that Postecoglou would be confirmed as Spurs head coach sooner rather than later, with Sky Sports reporting earlier today that Celtic have already started looking for the 57-year-old’s replacement.

The Telegraph subsequently suggested that the Australian is ‘close to sealing’ a move to Spurs, who are expected to pay £5m in compensation to Celtic.

There remains the question of Postecoglou’s coaching staff at Tottenham, with The Daily Record reporting on Sunday that the Bhoys head coach wants to offer ‘key roles’ to assistants, John Kennedy and Gavin Strachan at the Premier League oufit.

However, The Times have now suggested that Celtic are keen to hang on to Kennedy and will try to resist Tottenham‘s attempts to bring him down south of the border.

It is explained that if a deal for the 39-year-old does not materialise, Postecoglou plans on joining Spurs and then going back for his assistant at a later date.

Kennedy’s playing career at Celtic came to a cruel end at just 26 and has remained at the club ever since with the 39-year-old having since worked under a number of coaches including Ronny Deila, Brendan Rodgers, Neil Lennon and now Postecoglou.

Spurs Web Opinion

I do not think it would be too much of a blow to Postecoglou if Kennedy is not part of his coaching staff as the Australian has not tended to take his backroom team with him from one club to another and has generally had no problem hiring and working with different staff when he takes a new job.
