Report reveals ‘angered’ Tottenham are set to fine three first-team stars

Football.London’s Alasdair Gold has revealed that Tottenham Hotspur are set to fine Giovani Lo Celso and Cristian Romero when they return to the UK from their international break.

The Spurs duo, along with Aston Villa’s Emiliano Buendia and Emiliano Martinez, decided to join up with the Argentina squad for the international break despite the Premier League not permitting players to travel to red-list countries.

The situation took another farcical turn on Sunday when officials from Brazil’s national health surveillance agency walked onto the pitch in Sao Paulo to stop the Selecao’s match with Argentina not long after the game had kicked off.

They claimed the four Premier League players had entered the country without declaring that they had arrived from the UK, a country that requires isolation upon arrival in Brazil for 14 days.

The quartet are believed to have been allowed to leave on a flight back to Argentina with the rest of the squad on Sunday evening.

Gold has now revealed that there was already anger at Tottenham that Lo Celso and Romero had flown to South America and that was only been exacerbated with the events in Sao Paulo on Sunday.

He also added that the Argentine duo, along with Davinson Sanchez, who has flown to South America to be part of Colombia’s squad, will be hit with a fine by Spurs when they return to the UK.

One cannot be too critical of the players as they cannot be expected to turn down the chance to represent one’s country in a World Cup qualifier.

However, the Brazilian authorities have made a complete mess of the situation while FIFA also need to take a big share of the blame for their scheduling.
