Report reveals Barcelona timeframe surrounding Spurs-linked Memphis Depay

Sport claim Barcelona have delayed making a decision on the future of Memphis Depay until after the end of pre-season in July, with Tottenham said to be interested in signing the forward.

Spurs are reportedly in the market for a new attacking player this summer, with a profile to play through in central and wide areas on their shortlist (Telegraph).

The Evening Standard claim Everton’s Richarlison and Leeds’ Raphinha are names high on their list, which comes after the club pulled back from the pursuit of Manchester City striker Gabriel Jesus.

But Barcelona and Netherlands forward Depay is also thought to be a target after Mundo Deportivo previously reported Tottenham were leading the pursuit for the 28-year-old.

And Spurs have now been given a timeline on when they can expect to learn whether the Barca man will become available for transfer this summer.

Sport claim Barcelona will wait until at least July before deciding on Depay’s future with manager Xavi Hernandez keen to assess his forward options before the start of the season.

The report explains the LaLiga club are relaxed about the situation and are not in a rush to push for an exit, while there is an expectation he will have a place at the club if a move does not materialise.

Spurs Web Opinion

Barcelona’s precarious financial position could pressurise them into having to make a sale for someone like Depay this summer.

His form was a bit mixed last season but he’d definitely be a solid option for a club like Spurs to bring in, although there would not be a guarantee of the minutes he’d receive.
