Report reveals cheeky joke that Daniel Levy made during opening of St George’s Park

Tottenham Hotspur boast not just one of the best stadiums in world football but also one of the world’s best training grounds in Hotspur Way.

Jose Mourinho praised the facilities at Spurs’ training ground on multiple occasions (Football.London) after taking over as the new head coach.

Daniel Levy, the man who delivered the world-class facilities, is no doubt proud of his achievement, and a report in The Athletic has now shed light on how the Tottenham chairman was not shy of letting people know of how great Hotspur Way is.

St George’s Park, the training ground used by the Three Lions, as well as England’s youth sides, was opened in 2012, and it is revealed that Levy was one of the dignitaries in attendance for the opening of the centre that was billed as the pride of the English game.

It is claimed that when an attendee sidled up to Levy and asked him why he had made it to the event, the 58-year-old joked: “I just wanted to come and make sure that my training ground was better than this one. And it is!”

There is no doubt that Levy deserves a lot of credit for delivering Hotspur Way as well as the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium. These venues are going to be massive assets for the club in many ways for decades to come. It might feel like we might have been better off investing in the squad but in terms of the club’s long-term health, there is no doubt that what Levy has done in the last decade has elevated the club to a new level globally.
