Report reveals Daniel Levy has big concern about appointing Nuno

According to Football.London, Daniel Levy is concerned about the style of play Nuno Espirito Santo would employ should he become Tottenham’s next head coach.

Even though some sources have claimed that the likes of Graham Potter are still in the running, Nuno now seems to be the overwhelming favourite to replace Jose Mourinho at the helm.

Some Spurs fans on social media are certainly not enthused at the potential appointment of the former Wolves boss, who does not have a reputation of setting his teams up to play the kind of ‘free-flowing, attacking and entertaining’ football that Levy promised last month.

Football.London have now explained that the Spurs chairman is said to be concerned by comparisons being made between Nuno and Mourinho’s style of play and thus has reservations over the 47-year-old’s appointment.

However, Tottenham’s new managing director of football, Fabio Paratici, is said to be a fan of Nuno, having previously tried to take the Portuguese coach to Juventus.

It is explained that Paratici would like the club to appoint a coach with a relatively conservative tactical approach.

The report thus explains Levy’s conundrum of whether or not to go with the judgement of Paratici, who has been brought in for his expertise on footballing decisions, or to overrule the Italian and appoint a head coach who would be in keeping with the club’s traditions of playing attacking football.

Spurs Web Opinion

Many Spurs fans wanted Levy to delegate footballing decisions to someone with more expertise and stick to running the business side of the club. That is exactly what Levy has done by appointing someone who is reputed as one of the best sporting directors in the game.

However, the Spurs chairman is now getting pelters from the same fans for seemingly trusting Paratici’s judgement on the next appointment, which seems ridiculous. I did not want Nuno at Spurs but if he does get the job, I will be fully behind him.
