Report reveals details as Spurs failed with a late attempt to hijack Van de Beek deal

The Daily Mirror has reported that Manchester United have won the race for Donny van de Beek’s signature after they saw off a late attempt by Tottenham Hotspur to hijack the midfielder’s transfer.

Sport claimed last week that Tottenham were one of four clubs interested in signing the 23-year-old, along with United, Real Madrid, and Barcelona.

However, multiple sources since then have now confirmed that the Dutch international is on his way to Old Trafford.

The Mirror claims that the Ajax star will arrive at United in a deal worth £40million as the Red Devils beat out a late attempt by Tottenham to snap up with midfielder.

It is revealed that United’s chief negotiator Matt Judge was alerted to the Lilywhites’ attempts to hijack the transfer and thus moved quickly to get the deal done.

The report reveals that Ole Gunnar Solskjaer launched a charm offensive to land Van de Beek, with the midfielder reportedly telling his friends in Amsterdam that the United boss’ determination to sign him was the key factor in his decision.

Multiple sources have now confirmed that we made a late attempt to sign Van de Beek, while we also seem to have had a bid rejected not too long ago for Nicolo Zaniolo. That suggests that Jose Mourinho still wants to bring in one marquee creative midfielder who can potentially challenge Dele and take us to the next level.
