According to the Athletic, Antonio Conte was pushing for Tottenham to complete the signing of Richarlison for a multitude of reasons.
Richarlison completed his switch to Spurs from Premier League rivals Everton on Friday, signing a five-year deal for the Lilywhites.
Having plied his trade for the Toffees, as well as Watford in the last five seasons (TransferMarkt), the 25-year-old has proven that he can hack it in England.
In just 30 league appearances last season, Richarlison managed to score ten times, providing a further five assists as he inspired Frank Lampard’s side to Premier League survival (TransferMarkt).
However, Spurs are not exactly in dire need of a prolific forward, with golden boot winner Son Heung-Min, England captain Harry Kane, and Swedish youngster Dejan Kulusevski all notching impressive numbers for Antonio Conte’s side last campaign (Sporting News).
Despite these attacking riches, Conte reportedly pushed for the acquisition of Richarlison, having tracked the player during his time as Chelsea coach, before a move to Everton at the start of the 2018/19 season materialised.
The Athletic claim Conte is a huge fan of the player’s gritty mentality and feels as though he would be the perfect addition to Spurs’ attacking riches.

New Spurs performance director, Gretar Steinsson, is also a huge admirer of the Brazilian having worked closely with him during their time at Everton.
The Athletic claim that Richarlison’s physicality and seemingly endless energy were attributes that Steinsson prioritised in his side.
It is also thought that the aforementioned qualities will hold the player in good stead when he is tasked with dealing with Conte’s extremely high demands.

Whilst his mentality and physical attributes speak for themselves, I feel as though he will push our front three to new heights and ensure that no one is resting on their laurels.
