Report reveals further details on Reguilon’s buy-back clause

Alongside the return of Gareth Bale on loan, Tottenham also confirmed the signing of his Real Madrid team-mate, Sergio Reguilon on Saturday evening.

The Evening Standard previously reported that Spurs have agreed to pay a fee of around £25million for Reguilon which included a clause by Real Madrid which would allow them to sign him back for around £10million more.

Football.London’s Alasdair Gold has now claimed that the Lilywhites ended up agreeing on a deal of around £28m with Real Madrid for the left-back.

He also reports that the North Londoners stand to make a profit of around £15m if Real Madrid activate the buy-back clause, which puts the clause at around £43m.

Gold added that Los Blancos can only activate the clause in either the summer of 2021 or 2022 and will only be able to do so if Reguilon himself agrees to return to Madrid.

Spurs Web Opinion

Tottenham will be hoping that Reguilon feels settled in North London and that he sees no reason to return to Madrid if they do come calling. However, having grown up a Madrid fan, one would imagine that the left-back might be tempted to return if he is given the chance to fight it out for a starting spot. Zidane does not seem to rate Reguilon and so we might end up keeping the defender if the Frenchman remains in charge of Madrid for the next two years.
