Report reveals Gareth Bale ‘did not fully realise’ the effect of being back at Spurs

As far as second debuts go, Gareth Bale’s one for Tottenham against West Ham might rank up there as one of the most disappointing.

There was plenty of excitement from the Tottenham fan base about him putting on the famous Lilywhite shirt once again.

Fans would have been pinching themselves when they saw the Welshman coming on with little over 20 minutes left on the clock, with the game seemingly already over.

Everything seemed set up for Bale to mark his fairytale return with a goal to put the icing on the cake for the home side.

The former Real Madrid man will want to forget what followed as Mourinho’s men threw away two points in spectacular fashion by conceding three goals in the final ten minutes of the game, which was made worse by the fact that Bale missed a gilt-edged chance to score a fourth.

However, putting yesterday’s result to one side, the noises coming out of the club seems to be that Bale is extremely happy to be back in North London and that his teammates and coaching staff have been impressed with his desire and quality (Football.London)

Mourinho claimed in his press conference on Friday that Sergio Reguilon had remarked how Bale was a completely different character at Spurs compared to how he was in the Real Madrid dressing room.

A report in The Guardian now sheds more light on how the 31-year-old is feeling at Spurs.

The report claims that Bale did not fully realise the effect that walking back into a welcoming environment would have on his psyche, having endured a difficult final few years at Madrid.

It is said that the winger has hit it off with many of his new Spurs teammates and that he has also found two golfing partners in Matt Doherty and Harry Kane.

All three players reportedly use the same app to track their games and the trio are said to boast of a similar handicap of around 2.5.

It is claimed that Bale is relaxed, contented and loved at Spurs, just like he is at Wales set up, and is hopeful that can help him produce his best on the pitch once again.

Spurs Web Opinion

From the vides of Bale training, it certainly looks like Bale is much more involved than he was at Real Madrid, where he seemed like an aloof character. After the things he has gone through over the last few years, he certainly has the experience and the mental strength to put the West Ham game behind him. I can see him starting against LASK on Thursday and finding the back of the net.
