Report reveals how Levy went weeks without sleep when Spurs were struggling

Some Spurs fans have always doubted whether Daniel Levy deeply cares about the club’s fortunes on the pitch.

There is a feeling that the Tottenham chairman has not done enough to back some of the club’s former managers, particularly Mauricio Pochettino in the transfer market.

However, The Athletic claim that those close to Levy are in no doubt of how much the team’s fortunes mean to him.

The report claims that the 58-year-old ‘lives and breathes the success of the team on the pitch’.

It is alleged that Levy told his friends that he could not sleep for weeks when Tottenham were struggling at the start of the 2008-09 season under Juande Ramos.

He is also said to have messaged Mauricio Pochettino late at night after Tottenham beat Chelsea 2-0 in 2017 to say that he was so excited that he could not sleep.

The report from The Athletic also sheds light into the Spurs chairman’s personality, with sources close to him using the words “reserved” and “intelligent” quite often describe him.

Any suggestions that Daniel Levy does not care about winning trophies or on-pitch success, must have been dispelled with the appointment of Jose Mourinho. If the Spurs chairman wanted a ‘yes’ man, he would not have certainly not gone for the Portuguese coach. The appointment of Jose, as well as his decision to loosen the purse strings last summer, were clear indications that he wants success on the pitch.
