Report reveals how much Spurs are set to pay Nuno after his sacking

According to The Sun, Tottenham Hotspur are set to pay Nuno Espirito Santo a mega £14m severance package after relieving him of his duties.

Tottenham appointed Nuno Espirito Santo just four months ago and the Portuguese coach lasted just ten Premier League games at the North London club.

The 3-0 loss at home to a struggling Manchester United side on Saturday proved to be the final nail in the coffin for the Portuguese coach and his coaching staff.

The Athletic reported last month that Spurs inserted a clause in the former Wolves boss’ contract that would allow them to sack him at the end of the season without paying compensation if the club did not finish in the top six at the end of the season.

The Sun have now also backed up this claim, claiming that the 47-year-old was not entitled a payoff if he had failed to steer the club to a top-six place.

However, they reveal that Spurs’ decision to pull the plug on Nuno just four months into his reign means the club have to fork out the entire value of his two-year contract to cut ties.

That means that Tottenham have to pay the Portuguese coach £14m for their decision, which works out to £1.4m for every league game he oversaw.

While Levy and Paratici evidently made a mistake by appointing Nuno, they do deserve some credit for taking evasive action quickly despite the fact that the decision to sack Nuno and appoint Conte was an extremely expensive one.

While it remains to be seen if Conte’s appointment will work, the one thing the club’s hierarchy cannot be accused of is lacking ambition. The 52-year-old is arguably the most ambitious coaches in the market and will certainly demand a significant transfer budget.
