Report reveals how much Toby Alderweireld will earn from his new Spurs deal

Tottenham fans received some welcome news today as the club confirmed that Toby Alderweireld has penned a new three and a half a year contract with the club.

The defender has now committed his future to the Lilywhites until the end of the 2022-2023 season.

The Daily Mail report that the 30-year-old’s new deal is worth £150,000-a-week which makes him one of the highest earners at the club.

This equates a massive pay rise for the defender whose previous contract with the club was reportedly only worth £50,000-a-week.

The defender’s previous contract was due to run out at the end of the current season. Alderweireld was linked with a move away from the club last summer as there was a clause in his contract that meant that he was available for just £25million during the final weeks of the transfer window (Evening Standard).

This news comes just over two months on from the club’s decision to hand Moussa Sissoko a new four-year deal (Sky Sports).

The contracts to Sissoko and Alderweireld – two players who are on the wrong side of 30 – is clear evidence that there is a change in policy from Daniel Levy. Hopefully, the Spurs chairman also decides to loosen the purse strings in the transfer window and gives Mourinho the resources he needs to get his targets in.
