Report reveals how Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg ‘could end up on the market’ this summer

Tuesday’s print edition of Corriere della Sera (as relayed by Sport Witness) has claimed that Tottenham Hotspur could cash in on Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg in the summer amidst AS Roma’s interest in the midfielder.

Jose Mourinho was the man who brought Hojbjerg to Spurs from Southampton in the summer of 2020 and the midfielder had an excellent first season in North London.

However, the 26-year-old has not been able to maintain the same sort of consistency in his second campaign at Tottenham and it did not come as a surprise when he was dropped from the starting lineup by Antonio Conte against Wolves.

Il Romanista reported last week that Mourinho wishes to reunite with the former Saints star at the Stadio Olimpico and the midfielder was one of the players on Roma’s wishlist ahead of the summer transfer window.

This has now been backed up by Corriere della Sera, who suggest that the Dane ‘could end up on the market’ in the summer.

The report adds that Mourinho ‘values’ the 26-year-old highly and the midfielder himself felt very comfortable playing under the Portuguese coach.

Even though Hojbjerg has a ‘long contract and an important value on the market’, it is alleged that Spurs could be open to selling him when the transfer window reopens.

Spurs Web Opinion

The jury is out on whether Hojbjerg is good enough to be a fixture in Tottenham’s starting eleven given the ambitions of where we want to get to. There are certainly issues with his inconsistent passing but it cannot be denied that his defensive awareness is top-notch.

Besides, the 26-year-old also adds a lot of intangibles like leadership qualities, and he seems like the kind of player who the club would benefit from having around. So, I would expect Conte to want to keep the Dane around as a squad player.
