Report reveals Jose Mourinho’s relationship with Gareth Bale is under strain

According to a report in The Evening Standard, Jose Mourinho’s relationship with Gareth Bale is under strain over the Welshman’s fitness.

Mourinho said before Tottenham’s clash against Everton on Wednesday that the winger did not feel 100 per cent and that he had asked to work with the sports science team.

However, the winger took to Instagram on Tuesday to suggest that he had a good training session with the rest of the squad at Hotspur Way.

The Spurs boss was critical of the 31-year-old’s social media post in his pre-match press conference before the clash against Manchester City, insisting that it created needless confusion and that the post contradicted reality.

According to The Evening Standard, Bale was bemused by Mourinho’s comments about his absence not being injury-related and down to “some feelings”.

Meanwhile, the Spurs boss is said to be growing increasingly frustrated with the fitness of the 31-year-old.

The report suggests that though the on-loan Real Madrid star was surprised by Mourinho’s characterisation of the situation, he is unfazed by his treatment and is still eager for a run in the side.

This situation seems to stem from miscommunication between Bale and Mourinho. The Spurs boss could have just resolved it by saying that the Welshman was not fit for the clash against Everton rather than going into the specifics of the 31-year-old’s issues.
