Report reveals Levy’s contingency plans ahead of ‘frank’ discussions with Conte

The Telegraph have revealed that Tottenham Hotspur are prepared to make a move for Brighton boss Graham Potter this summer should they fail to convince Antonio Conte to stay at the club.

Despite Tottenham securing Champions League qualification with their 5-0 demolition of Norwich City on Sunday, Conte refused to commit his future to the club, reiterating again that he will meet with the club hierarchy to discuss their ambitions (Football.London).

The Telegraph have now revealed that Daniel Levy had an honest conversation with Conte before the Italian joined the club in November.

The Spurs chairman is said to have made it clear there would not be fortunes to spend in the January transfer window while Conte is thought to have demanded changes to working practices and the running of the football side of the club.

It is explained that the pair will once again have ‘frank’ discussions about their future plans, with the Spurs head coach said to believe that the squad needs six to eight new additions.

The Telegraph added that a split between Conte and Spurs cannot be completely ruled out, with the North Londoners prepared to make a move for Potter in such a scenario.

However, the report states that Levy’s priority is to meet Conte ‘in the middle’ and embark on a full season with the 52-year-old at the helm.

Both the club and Conte will have to compromise a bit in the planned talks, which I expect them to do. In fact, I expect Levy to go more than halfway as he will know that he cannot afford to lose the Italian.

On the other hand, Conte will also have to make some compromises as we do not have a sugar daddy funding us like Man City do nor do we have the financial muscle of a club like Man Utd.

The Italian has built a solid foundation at Spurs and has developed a great bond with the squad. So, I would be surprised if he decided to walk away without exploring what he can achieve in a full season.
