Report reveals major change Spurs sports science staff have noticed in Ndombele

Football.London have revealed that the Tottenham staff believe Tanguy Ndombele is now fitter than he has ever been since joining the club.

Ndombele has not managed to live up to expectations at Spurs since the North Londoners shattered their transfer record to sign him in the summer of 2019.

Jose Mourinho publicly criticised the Frenchman for his work-rate last year and the Portuguese coach’s subsequent reluctance to play the midfielder for more than an hour last season suggested that he was not happy with the 24-year-old’s fitness levels.

New Spurs boss Antonio Conte is allegedly intent on improving the squad’s fitness and is thought to have drastically altered the players’ training regimes and diet.

While talking about the importance of Ndombele impressing Conte and his coaching staff during the international break, Football.London’s Alasdair Gold revealed that the midfielder’s fitness has improved.

He stated that the former Lyon man is considered by the sports science staff at Spurs to be in the best physical condition of his time at the club.

Gold further said that Inter Milan showed interest in singing Ndombele this summer when Conte was still in charge at the San Siro.

Finally, the journalist notes that the new Spurs boss is expected to shift from a 3-4-3 formation to a 3-4-2-1 in the coming weeks and so, the French international could force himself into the side if he impresses Conte and his staff.

Spurs Web Opinion

There have certainly been some signs already this season that Ndombele’s fitness has improved. The Frenchman completed 90 minutes on a couple of occasions under Nuno and seemed to be coping fine towards the end of the game. It will be interesting to see how he copes with the intensity of the training sessions under Conte.
