Report reveals Man City’s stance after Harry Kane’s training absence

The Athletic have revealed that Manchester City are quietly confident they will be able to strike a deal with Daniel Levy for the transfer of Harry Kane before the transfer window shuts.

It has been no secret over the last few months that City are keen on signing Kane and the striker wants to link up with Pep Guardiola at the Etihad.

Few would have expected the England captain to not show up for training but that is exactly what he seems to be doing in an effort to force a move away from his boyhood club.

Spurs are expected to fine the striker and it has been alleged that the club still have no intention of selling him to a domestic rival.

The Atheltic have now explained that despite Tottenham’s stance, City believe they can get their man before the transfer window shuts.

The report explains that the reigning Premier League champions were keen on signing a striker last summer and held a genuine interest in Kane but chose to pursue Lionel Messi instead.

City are said to be determined to get the Tottenham striker this summer and it is stated they are prepared to play the long game as Kane tries to exert more pressure on Levy.

The report adds that City have no backup options in mind, with Kane being the player that Guardiola wants.

Spurs Web Opinion

It is understandable why most Spurs fans are surprised by Kane’s actions as he is the last person one would have expected this sort of behaviour from. However, in hindsight, everything that emerged from Kane’s camp over the past few months has hinted at this sort of move.

Firstly, he came out before the end of the season admitted his desire to leave. He even insisted in his interview with Gary Neville that the decision will come down to him and hinted at a gentlemen’s agreement with Daniel Levy.

Even after the Euros, Kane’s entourage seemed convinced that Levy would accept a big-money offer for the striker from City this summer.

The fact that City have not made moves for the likes of Haaland or Lukaku, was also a massive hint they knew the 28-year-old would down tools at Spurs and push to leave.

In fact, The Telegraph even specifically claimed last month that Kane’s England teammates believed the striker might not show up for pre-season training at Spurs in an effort to force himself out. So, all the signs were there but Spurs fans just chose not to believe what we were hearing.
