Report reveals Man United’s chances of appointing ex-Spurs Pochettino

ESPN have claimed that Manchester United are interested in replacing Ole Gunnar Solskjaer with Mauricio Pochettino but assert that the former Spurs boss is not likely to be available.

Before confirming Nuno Espirito Santo as Jose Mourinho’s successor over the summer, Tottenham reportedly tried to bring Pochettino back to the club.

It was even claimed at the time that the Argentine was keen on a return to North London as he was said to be unhappy at Paris Saint-Germain.

However, the 49-year-old ended up staying in Paris and has since put pen to paper on a contract extension with the Ligue 1 giants.

Following United’s 5-0 loss to Liverpool on Sunday, Solskjaer has come under a lot of pressure, with reports now indicating that the Red Devils are considering sacking the Norwegian.

Antonio Conte has been linked with the United job but ESPN have now claimed that the Old Trafford hierarchy are reluctant to approach the Italian.

It is explained that the reluctance is due to the former Chelsea and Inter Milan boss’ perceived abrasive and demanding character.

The report claims that United could thus move for Pochettino, who has been a long-term target for them. However,  despite PSG’s unconvincing start to the season, it is stated that Pochettino is not ‘expected to be available anytime soon’.

Spurs Web Opinion

Pochettino is guaranteed to return to the Premier League within the next 12 months as I cannot see him lasting too long at PSG (unless he wins the Champions League this year).

So, it would be ideal for Spurs if United sack Solskjaer now when Poch is unavailable, thus opening the door for the Argentine to potentially return to Tottenham at the end of the season.
