Report reveals Memphis Depay’s intentions this summer amidst Spurs links

The Athletic have revealed that Memphis Depay, who has been heavily linked with a move to Tottenham over recent weeks, has no intention of leaving Barcelona this summer.

Contradictory reports have emerged over the past couple of weeks regarding Tottenham’s interest in Depay, who is thought to be surplus to requirements at Barcelona after the arrival of Robert Lewandowski and Raphinha (AS).

Sport reported last week that Tottenham had stepped up their pursuit of the Dutchman and even claimed the Lilywhites had already presented an offer to the player’s representatives.

This was subsequently dismissed by Fabrizio Romano, who revealed that the North London club have not made a bid for the Netherlands international so far (GiveMeSport).

AS claimed a couple of days ago that Xavi Hernandez met with Depay during Barca’s pre-season tour in the United States and informed the striker that he would spend the entire campaign on the sidelines if he does not find a new club this summer.

If The Athletic’s latest update is to be believed, despite Xavi’s words, the former Manchester United man does not wish to leave the Nou Camp this summer.

The report explains that Depay would be happy to wait until next summer for a transfer as he knows he will be a free agent in 12 months.

Spurs Web Opinion

None of the journalists who have reliable sources inside Tottenham have suggested that the club have a serious interest in Depay. Almost all of the speculation linking us with the Dutchman over the last few weeks has come from Spanish sources.

While Spurs might have enquired about the 28-year-old’s availability earlier in the transfer window, I suspect the club would have ended their interest in the Barca star the second they secured Richarlison.
