Report reveals multiple La Liga clubs are interested in 23-year-old Spurs star

Football.London’s Alasdair Gold has revealed that a number of Spanish clubs are monitoring Emerson Royal, who is expected to leave Tottenham this summer.

Although Emerson had a decent end to his first campaign at Spurs and showed signs of settling into the Premier League, the Brazilian has generally struggled to cope with the demands of the right wing-back role since Antonio Conte replaced Nuno Espirito Santo.

Previous reports have indicated that Spurs are expected to cash in on the 23-year-old this summer, just 12 months on from signing him from Barcelona (The Times).

This has now been backed up by Gold, who claims that Tottenham wish to sign Middlesbrough starlet Djed Spence this summer and are ready to sacrifice Emerson.

The journalist reveals that Spurs wish to use Spence in tandem with Matt Doherty at right wing-back this season, with several La Liga clubs allegedly showing interest in Emerson.

Spurs Web Opinion

I do feel bad for Emerson as he was not signed to be a right wing-back and was always going to struggle in that position. I believe the Brazilian can be a very competent right-back in a back four but with Conte not likely to move away from his tried and tested system, the writing was always on the wall for the 23-year-old as soon as the Italian arrived at the club.
