Report reveals Real Madrid’s fear about Gareth Bale at Tottenham this season

According to The Daily Mail, Real Madrid are fearful that Gareth Bale could return to the club at the end of his loan spell at Spurs, thus scuppering their plan to get him off their wage bill.

Bale has failed to hit the expected heights since his fairytale return to Tottenham in the summer, eight years after he left North London.

The 31-year-old has started just one Premier League game for Jose Mourinho’s side since his return and still looks a long way off his best.

The Mail claim that Real Madrid had hoped that Bale would be able to revive his career at Tottenham and the North Londoners would make the loan deal permanent at the end of the season.

The Spanish giants had reportedly hoped that they would be able to get the Welshman’s salary off their pay role, which could, in turn, free up funds to sign the likes of Kylian Mbappe and Erling Haaland.

However, they now fear that Bale could return to the Santiago Bernabeau at the end of the season to see our the final year of his contract at Madrid.

Bale has not done enough so far to convince Jose Mourinho and Tottenham to make the deal permanent or even extend the loan deal at the end of the season. However, there is still plenty of time for him to turn it around and I suspect it might take only a couple of decent performances for the Wales international to get his confidence back.
