Report reveals reason why rumoured Spurs target Sergio Ramos has been absent

Sergio Ramos has emerged as an unlikely target for Tottenham Hotspur during the January transfer window.

The 34-year-old’s current contract with Real Madrid runs out at the end of the season and Spurs have reportedly contacted his representatives over a potential January move.

The Evening Standard have also claimed that Jose Mourinho wants to strengthen his central defensive options this month and is eying a reunion with Ramos.

Reports also indicated that there have been complications in the negotiations between Ramos and Los Blancos over a new contract.

Adding fuel to the fire, Ramos did not feature in the club’s recent 2-0 win over Celta Vigo on Saturday.

It now turns out that Ramos missing the match had nothing to do with his contract standoff or his proposed move away from Real Madrid.

Marca have confirmed that the experienced defender went down with a stomach problem, which is why he was not available for selection to Zinedine Zidane.

Spurs Web Opinion

Ramos would certainly bring a lot to the Tottenham backline even at 34 years of age but I do not believe the deal is likely. The defender’s representatives might well be fueling the rumours in order to get him the best possible terms. I expect him to sign a new deal with the Spanish giants sooner rather than later.
