Report reveals reason why Spurs player was not called up to national squad

El Desmarque has revealed that despite Bryan Gil not making it into the Spain squad for their upcoming international friendlies, the youngster still remains on Luis Enrique’s radar ahead of the World Cup later this year.

Gil has established himself as a regular in Valencia’s starting eleven since his loan move from Spurs in January and the winger has already won over the Los Che fans with his impressive displays.

Reports indicate that the La Liga side are already working on extending the 21-year-old’s loan spell beyond the end of this season (The Daily Star).

However, the youngster’s displays over the last two months were not enough for him to be recalled to the Spain squad for their upcoming international friendlies against Albania and Iceland.

El Desmarque have now explained that part of the reason for that was that Spain’s Under-21 head coach Luis de la Fuente ‘demanded’ the player’s presence for their European Championship qualifiers against Lithuania and Slovakia.

The report adds that Enrique has not forgotten about Gil and that the on-loan Spurs star could be called up to the senior Spain squad for the UEFA Nations League this summer ahead of the World Cup in Qatar later this year.

Gil’s decision on whether to extend his stay at Valencia could be impacted by what he perceives to be his chances of making the Spain squad for the World Cup. With the tournament starting in November, the youngster might well push to continue on loan at the Mestalla for the first half of next season.
