Report reveals Roma’s valuation of Zaniolo amidst Tottenham rumours

CalcioMercato have revealed that Tottenham Hotspur and Newcastle have both expressed an interest in signing AS Roma winger Nicolo Zaniolo.

Zaniolo has been a long-term target for Tottenham, with the club being linked with a move for the winger as far back as in 2019 (Mirror).

However, following a terrific start to his Serie A and international career, the 22-year-old picked up an ACL injury last year which put him out of action for the majority of last season.

Zaniolo has not managed to hit the same heights since returning from his injury, having not found the back of the net in 15 appearances in Serie A this season.

CalcioMercato reported two weeks ago that the winger was contemplating leaving the Stadio Olympico, with Spurs potentially set to reignite their interest.

The same publication has now offered an update on Zaniolo’s future, explaining that Spurs and the Magpies both have their eye on him ahead of January.

The report claims that the Roma star is valued at €40m (£34m) by the Serie A club. However, it is said that the Giallorossi hierarchy are hesitant to sell the player in January.

Spurs Web Opinion

I am sure Spurs would have bitten Roma’s hands off had Zaniolo been offered to them for less than £40m last year. However, the 22-year-old’s form since returning from injury is a matter of concern.

We have seen in the past that some players are often never the same after returning from a major ACL injury. So, I suspect Spurs will be keen to see how the winger gets on this season before potentially revisiting the deal next summer.
