Report reveals size of transfer ‘war chest’ promised to Antonio Conte – Over £100m

According to The Sun, the Tottenham hierarchy have promised Antonio Conte a humungous war chest to revive the club.

Conte is set to replace Nuno Espirito Santo as the next Spurs head coach after the former Wolves boss was sacked by the club on Monday, just 124 days after his appointment.

Various reports were doing the rounds on Monday detailing the transfer targets and the budget that Conte was demanding to sign on the dotted line.

Sources from Italy indicated that Spurs had agreed to give the 52-year-old a significant transfer budget of more than €100m (£84.6m) in a ‘short time’ while The Evening Standard also suggested Spurs will hand him sufficient funds to rebuild the squad.

Calciomercato.it were a lot more specific, claiming that the former Chelsea boss had named Inter Milan duo Marcelo Brozovic and Stefan de Vrij, Juventus pair Federico Chiesa and Matthijs de Ligt as well as AC Milan defender Alessio Romagnoli as players he wanted Tottenham to bring in.

If The Sun’s latest report is to be believed, not only have Tottenham handed Conte a bumper £290,000-a-week contract but the Italian has also been promised a whopping war chest of £150m

However, the report does not specify if the £150m figure would be spread over a couple of transfer windows or whether the club would be prepared to spend that amount on new recruits in January.

Spurs Web Opinion

I would be flabbergasted if we spent anything close to £150m in January. I suspect that is the net spend Conte would have been promised over the next few windows. However, I would expect us to be pretty active in January.

Given that we have Paratici and Conte working together, we could look to raid several Serie A clubs, many of whom are struggling financially and have players running out of contracts.
