Report reveals Spurs could cover more of Lenglet’s salary than previous claims suggested

Tottenham will cover a significant portion of Clement Lenglet’s salary during his proposed season-long loan from Barcelona, according to Marca.

The Spanish outlet claims the centre-back is close to sealing a move to North London with an agreement also being struck on the structure of his wages after Spurs explained they did not want to foot the entire bill.

It is outlined that Tottenham will take on 85 per cent of Lenglet’s wages while Barca will assume the remaining amount, which is significantly more compared to previous reports.

Italian journalist Gerard Romero claimed Spurs would pay around €7 million (£6m) of the Frenchman’s €12m (£10.3m) annual salary — the equivalent of £115,000 per week out of £200,000 per week.

Transfer guru Fabrizio Romano revealed the final touches are being placed on a deal, which would see him become the fifth signing for Antonio Conte this summer.

Lenglet allegedly had initial reservations about the move, although discussions with Conte saw him convinced after learning of his potential role in the club’s project (Sport).

While it seems like a pretty big chunk of money that Tottenham will have to pay, we have to remember that it will only be for one season at present.

He will provide some much-needed depth in defence which will be important this season with the World Cup splitting things midway through.
