Report reveals Spurs rejected midfielder now wanted by Real Madrid and PSG

According to a report by Spanish news outlet AS, Celta Vigo midfielder Renato Tapia, who is said on the radar of the biggest clubs in Europe, was rejected by Tottenham five years ago.

Tapia has made a tremendous impression since leaving Feyenoord last summer to move to the La Liga side.

The Peruvian has been one of the most consistent players in his position in Spanish football this season, with AS even comparing him favourably to Casermiro and revealing that the 25-year-old has attracted interest from Real Madrid.

Additionally, Atletico Madrid and Paris Saint-Germain have also reportedly expressed interest in landing the midfield enforcer.

AS claims that Tapia had a trial at both Spurs and Liverpool when he was just 16-years-old but both Premier League clubs rejected the chance to sign him.

The midfielder instead made the move to FC Twente before making a name for himself at Feyenoord after joining the Dutch giants in 2016.

On the back of his performances for Celta this season, a big move looks to be just around the corner for Tapia and perhaps Spurs will look back on their rejection of the Peruvian international as a big missed opportunity.

Different players have different development trajectories and it is not always possible to tell how far a kid is going to go when he is a teenager. Given the lack of interest from big clubs in Tapia until this season, it seems like he has been a late developer.
