Report reveals staggering reason as to why Spurs pulled out of Coutinho deal

The Mirror are now reporting that the real reason Spurs pulled out of a move for Philippe Coutinho this summer was because of the huge price tags attached to him.

The total costs to take the Brazilian playmaker on loan for just the one season was apparently set to cost the North London side a staggering £40m.

This total fee included a £30m loan price tag from Barcelona and Coutinho’s wages of £1m per month.

This was said to be far above what Tottenham were willing to pay for the ex-Liverpool man, who Pochettino worked with for six months at Espanyol back in 2013.

Arsenal apparently also made a late move for Coutinho, but came to the same conclusion regarding the extremely high price tag.

This news comes after previous reports that stated Pochettino called up Coutinho in order to convince him to join (Express), before the midfielder still decided to turn Tottenham down (Mirror).
