Report reveals that Dele Alli almost joined relegation battlers instead of Spurs

Tottenham Hotspur certainly picked themselves up a bargain when they secured the transfer of Dele Alli from MK Dons back in 2015.

Spurs snapped up the midfield man for just £5m before loaning him back to the then League One side (BBC).

In that final season for MK Dons, Dele scored 16 goals in 44 games from a central midfield position, as he clearly showed that he was destined for bigger things.

It also took him no time at all to adapt to Premier League life, almost instantly slotting into the Spurs starting line-up in the 2015/16 season.

In that breakout year, he played 46 games and scored ten goals for Spurs, following that up with a career-best 22 in 50 the next year (Wikipedia).

Dele has now played 200 games for Tottenham Hotspur and has really blossomed under the new management of Jose Mourinho.

However, The Athletic’s David Ornstein has now claimed that Dele came close to signing for Premier League relegation battlers Aston Villa, with the club even agreeing a deal with MK Dons.

Alli visited the Villa training ground a day before the January transfer deadline, with a £20,000 a week deal on the table, before Pochettino convinced him to join Spurs the next day.
