Report reveals the Conte promise that swayed Lenglet on Spurs move

Sport have revealed that Antonio Conte’s assurance to Clement Lenglet that he would be an important player for Tottenham, is what swayed the centre-back regarding a move to the North London club.

Lenglet is expected to become Spurs’ fifth signing of the summer, with Marca reporting on Friday that the Frenchman will have his medical over the weekend before sealing a season-long loan move to the Lilywhites.

According to Gerard Romero, of the 27-year-old’s s £200,000-a-week wages, Tottenham will have to cover £115,000-a-week, with the Catalan giants continuing to pick up the rest of the bill during his loan spell.

Mundo Deportivo (30/06/22 — via Sport Witness) previously reported that Antonio Conte was ‘decisive’ in Lenglet’s move to Tottenham.

Sport have now revealed why that was the case, explaining that the former Sevilla man was initially hesitant about joining Spurs and was waiting for an offer from Juventus, who were eyeing him as a potential replacement for Matthijs de Ligt.

However, it is asserted that Juventus did not substantiate their interest and Conte spoke to Lenglet to assure him that he would be ‘an important player’ for Spurs.

That is said to have swayed the centre-back, who reportedly saw Tottenham as a ‘very good sporting option’.

Spurs Web Opinion

Based on the various reports over the last few days, it is clear that both Conte and Paratici rate Lenglet highly. Perhaps, they believe they can get him back to the level he was at during his time at Sevilla.

If the Bentancur and Kulusevski signings thought us anything, it is that just because a player does not fit into the set-up at one particular club, does not mean they cannot thrive at another club with a fresh start.
