Report reveals the two positions which Spurs want to strengthen this summer

Tottenham Hotspur are on the lookout for a new right-back and a left-footed centre back this summer, a report by Sky Sports has revealed.

Tottenham have had their fair share of defensive issues this season right which begun from the start of the campaign.

There have been several individual errors at the back for Spurs that have led to goals, and that is no doubt it is an area Jose Mourinho will be looking to improve on.

Previous reports have indicated that the Spurs boss will prioritise rebuilding the Tottenham backline in the summer (Football Insider), which does not come as a surprise.

Sky Sports have revealed that it is a right-back and a left-sided centre back that the Lilywhites will look to target when the transfer market opens.

Jan Vertonghen is expected to leave when his contract runs out in the summer (Football Insider) and a left-sided centre back could help fill the void left by the Belgian international.

Tottenham have also been linked with a whole host of right-backs including the likes of Max Aarons (Football Insider), Nelson Semedo (Don Balon), and Thomas Meunier (90Min).

We certainly need an experienced central defender to replace Vertonghen when he leaves and someone to compete with Aurier for the right-back spot. However, I’m surprised that the club haven’t also prioritised a move for a left-back considering Rose looks to be on his way out of Tottenham. That would indicate that perhaps Mourinho wants to use Sessegnon at left-back if needed as a cover for Ben Davies.
