Report: Tottenham Hotspur now more up for sale ‘than they have ever been’

The Athletic have revealed that a well-placed source, who was involved in Tottenham’s takeover talks, has told them the club is now more for sale ‘than they have ever been’ in the past.

The report reveals that ENIC or Daniel Levy would not describe the club as being ‘for sale’ and they are in no urgency to find a buyer.

However, it is revealed that several sources have said ENIC have always built up Tottenham with the idea of selling the club one day.

The club’s owners have allegedly been willing to speak to investors recently, with one source stating: “It has always been a question of when. Daniel has said that he is building this to sell it.”

Another source is quoted as saying about the club: “It’s always been for sale and Daniel has always been open to discussions.”

The Athletic reveal that investors have shown interest in Tottenham over recent years, with American businessman Todd Boehly said to have led a group that was in advanced negotiations to buy the club for approximately £2.3 billion, although no final agreement was reached.

Another potential investor, Forrest Li, reportedly received a ‘red carpet welcome’ to the club back in December.

The Singaporean businessman was thought to be Daniel Levy’s guest at a home game and even stayed at Tottenham training ground afterwards.

The report reveals that any investor would have to pay £3 billion to buy Tottenham: £2.3 billion for the shares, plus £700 million of debt.

However, The Athletic add that potential investors are unlikely to pay the full amount and would rather prefer to start out with a minority stake and buy the club in instalments.

Spurs Web Opinion

This story will probably get more air time than it deserves as Spurs, like every other Premier League club, have always been for sale at the right price.

Spurs fans, who are understandably wary of ENIC’s lack of ambition, should be careful about what they wish for as new owners is not a guarantee of more investment into the first team.

All in all, the club has been run very well under ENIC and their smart decisions are the reason why we are now considered part of the ‘Bix 6’ and boast of one of the highest revenues in world football.
