Report reveals Tottenham’s next transfer priority after Werner and Dragusin

Tottenham Hotspur have wrapped up two key signings already this month, and now the club is turning its attention to acquiring a new central midfielder during the January transfer window.

In an uncharacteristically swift and effective start to the winter market, Spurs have moved fast to add two players to Ange Postecoglou‘s squad, with Radu Dragusin solving the lack of depth in defence and Timo Werner bringing extra firepower up top.

Spurs fans are now rightly excited, with the squad improving drastically already after just 10 days of the current window. However, it is thought the work is not over yet, with Tottenham expected to still make a move for a new central midfielder before the month is over.

What is next for Spurs in January?

The Lilywhites have long been rumoured to be looking to change things up in the middle of the park, and a report from the Independent claims acquiring a new number 8 is the priority for Spurs after Dragusin and Werner’s arrivals.

The North London club are expected to “push ahead with plans” to bring in a new midfielder this month, and Chelsea star Conor Gallagher remains at the “top of the list” for Postecoglou.

Tottenham are thought to have their sights set on rounding out their business in the window during the break between the upcoming game against Manchester United this weekend, and the FA Cup fourth-round clash with Manchester City later this month.

Postecoglou is believed to be keen to add a “running midfielder” to his ranks, someone who can play “at the head” of his midfield, and also be able to “alternate” with James Maddison in the playmaker role.

Gallagher is considered the “best fit” for the role, and it is suspected Chelsea would be willing to sell if the right price is put on the table. According to the report, that price could be around £50m.

Spurs Web Opinion

If we were able to bring in Conor Gallagher this month, on top of the signings of Werner and Dragusin, I think Spurs fans would lose their minds (and so would Chelsea fans, probably). It would be a real signal of intent, and set us up for a very exciting second half of the season.
