Report reveals Tottenham’s transfer stance on Bergwijn after Leicester heroics

The Daily Express have revealed that Tottenham Hotspur have taken Steven Bergwijn out of the shop window after his heroics against Leicester City yesterday.

Bergwijn came on as a substitute in the 79th minute and scored a brace deep into stoppage time to help Tottenham go from 2-1 down to win 3-2.

It was previously reported by Ekrem Konur that Ajax were looking to take the winger back to the Eredivisie and the club were set to return with a second offer after seeing their opening £15m bid turned down by the North London club (De Telegraaf).

After Bergwijn’s dramatic cameo against the Foxes, Conte insisted in his post-match interview to BT Sport that he had always maintained the Dutchman was a key part of his plans as he possesses attributes that are lacking in the current Spurs squad.

The Express have now revealed that before yesterday’s game, Tottenham were working hard behind the scenes to offload Bergwijn to Ajax.

However, the report claims that Conte has now had a change of heart over the wide man and is optimistic that the 24-year-old’s performance at the King Power Stadium can be the springboard to kickstart his Spurs career.

It does seem like Bergwijn has saved his Tottenham career with that brilliant 15-minute cameo yesterday. I doubt Ajax would have bid for the winger unless they had received encouragement from the Lilywhites to do so.

However, on the back of what he produced at the King Power Stadium, I cannot see Conte being willing to let the 24-year-old leave, particularly given that he is not blessed with an abundance of attacking options.
