Report reveals transfer budget that Levy has promised Conte at Tottenham

According to a report in CalcioMercato, Tottenham have promised a significant transfer budget to Antonio Conte over the short term in an effort to convince him to take the job.

Conte is now reportedly in London to hammer out the final details to replace Nuno Espirito Santo as the Spurs head coach following the Portuguese coach’s sacking this morning.

CalcioMercato have now revealed that the former Inter Milan boss was initially not too keen on taking over the North London club as he felt the squad needed significant investment.

However, it is explained that chairman Daniel Levy has now agreed to give the Italian a significant transfer budget after being persuaded to do so by managing director of football Fabio Paratici.

The report claims Spurs could hand Conte more than €100m (£84.6m) in a ‘short time’ to reflect the 52-year-old’s ambitions.

This has also been backed by The Evening Standard’s Dan Kilpatrick, who revealed during a Q&A with Spurs fans that the former Chelsea boss ‘will be given assurances of funds’ to rebuild the squad.

Conte clearly has all the power here since he is in demand and Tottenham’s decision to appoint Nuno went horribly wrong after the club rejected the chance to appoint the Italian during the summer.

Given what we know about Conte’s ambition, he is unlikely to sign on the dotted line unless he is promised enough funds for Spurs to compete with the best teams in the league in the near future.
