Report reveals ‘truth’ behind Spurs’ failed Coutinho transfer – Pochettino to blame

Tottenham Hotspur managed to bring in Jack Clarke, Ryan Sessegnon, Tanguy Ndombele, and Giovani Lo Celso on loan during the last summer transfer window.

However, the Lilywhites failed to bring in Barcelona’s Philippe Coutinho, despite being linked with him towards the end of the window.

The Mirror have now revealed ‘the real truth’ behind what happened between Tottenham, Barcelona, and Coutinho last summer.

The report claims that Tottenham were ready to push ahead for the deal to sign Coutinho, but it was actually Mauricio Pochettino who decided against such a move.

Reports emerged earlier this week claiming that a last-minute change in finances surrounding the deal from Daniel levy scuppered any chance of a move, something that had left Coutinho angry (Sport via Sport Witness).

However, the Mirror claim that the chairman was willing to make it happen and Coutinho’s agent Kia Joorabchian also rubbished claims of any ill feelings towards Levy (Daily Mail).

Despite the fact that Pochettino and Coutinho had worked together before at Espanyol, the Brazilian eventually joined Bayern Munich on loan.
