Report reveals update on AC Milan’s chance of signing Spurs’ Serge Aurier this summer

The latest reports from Italy indicate that AC Milan are now unlikely to complete a deal to sign Serge Aurier this summer.

It was reported that Spurs were ready to sanction Aurier’s sale after the arrival of Matt Doherty from Wolves, with Football.London claiming that the Lilywhites wanted £20million for the Ivorian.

It was also revealed that AC Milan, Bayer Leverkusen, and Monaco were competing for the Spurs defender’s signature.

However, the latest reports from Italy indicate that Milan may be set to pull out of the race for Aurier’s signature this summer.

Milan News claim that the trail leading to the Spurs man has ‘gone cold’ for the Serie A giants after Tottenham made it clear that they were not willing to loan him out.

TuttoMercatoWeb also backs up that claim and suggest that Milan asked Tottenham about singing Aurier on loan but the proposal was turned down. They suggest that the 27-year-old’s chances of joining Stefano Pioli’s side this summer are now ‘remote’.

Spurs Web Opinion

Given that Aurier only has two years to run on his contract, loaning him out would not make any sense for us, unless the right-back is to sign a contract extension, which seems highly unlikely. So, it does seem certain that he will be moved on this summer. I suspect Spurs could end by relaxing their £20m valuation as we approach the final weeks of the transfer window. Keeping him for the congested opening three weeks may not be a bad call anyway.
