Report reveals update on Antonio Rudiger’s future amidst Tottenham links

Reports indicate that Antonio Rudiger has decided to stay and fight for his place at Chelsea amidst rumours of a deadline day move to Spurs.

Football Insider reported earlier in the day that Tottenham had prioritised a deal for the Blues defender, who has fallen down the pecking order at Stamford Bridge, after Spurs’ deal for Milan Skriniar fell through.

The report claimed that Jose Mourinho himself was keen on landing Rudiger after missing out on the Inter man.

However, it now appears as if Swansea City’s Joe Rodon has become the club’s main central defensive target, with Spurs reportedly in talks with the Welsh club over the 22-year-old (Sky Sports).

Football.London have shed some light on why Tottenham’s attempts to sign Rudiger may have collapsed as they reveal that the defender made a ‘surprise’ decision to stay and fight for his place at Chelsea rather than leave the club on loan.

Meanwhile, The Daily Mail’s Sami Mokbel has also reiterated that claim and suggested on social media that Rudiger is focussed on working himself back into Frank Lampard’s plans.

I, for one, am delighted that we did not get Rudiger as I do not think he would have been the answer to our problems at left-centre-back. Rodon is an unknown quantity but it makes sense to bring in a young defender with a higher ceiling, who can learn from the likes of Alderweireld.
