Report reveals update on Marcel Sabitzer’s future amidst Spurs links

According to a report from Bild, Marcel Sabitzer will decide where he wants to transfer to in the next few weeks.

Sabitzer, who has been an important part of the Julian Nagelsmann revolution at RB Leipzig, was heavily linked with a move to Spurs during the January transfer window but the deal failed to materialise.

It was reported back in April that Tottenham were already laying the groundwork for a summer deal for Sabitzer and Alasdair Gold backed the North Londoners to compete for the Austrian international’s signature.

It was previously suggested that the 27-year-old, who has just 12 months left on his contract, was likely to cost around €17.5m (£15m).

However, Bild now claim that Leipzig could demand a higher fee for Sabitzer even though they have little choice but to cash in on him due to his contract situation.

With Austria being knocked out of the European Championships by Italy in the round of sixteen stage, the Leipzig star is now said to be ready to focus on his future.

However, while the report credits Arsenal, AC Milan and Roma with interest in Sabitzer, Spurs are not mentioned as one of the contenders for the versatile midfielder’s signature.

Spurs Web Opinion

While Sabitzer’s contract situation makes him a potentially lucrative option for the club to go for, I always suspected that Austrian’s case was being pushed by Jose Mourinho, which is perhaps why Roma are now being linked with the midfielder.

With Jose now having departed, it remains to be seen if Spurs will sell Dele Alli this summer. I cannot see us bringing Sabitzer in unless we move on the England international. A decision on Dele’s future will likely not be made until a new head coach is appointed.
