Report reveals update on Spurs and Atletico Madrid’s Emerson Royal stance

Atletico Madrid are keen on signing Emerson Royal on loan but Tottenham remain firm on securing a permanent transfer, according to the print edition of Marca (27/06/22 — as relayed by Sport Witness).

Emerson endured a mixed debut campaign for Spurs after joining from Barcelona last summer during the club’s spell under Nuno Espirito Santo.

Although he tallied 40 appearances in total last term (Transfermarkt) and was a key player towards the end of the campaign, the 23-year-old has already been linked with a move back to Spain.

Sky Sports previously claimed that Atletico have taken an interest in the right-back with manager Diego Simeone focused on bolstering his options ahead of the new season.

Marca have reinforced that Los Rojiblancos are keeping tabs on Emerson, but highlight a disparity between themselves and Tottenham regarding a deal.

The report explains Atletico are keen to seal a loan deal with an option to make the move permanent further down the line, although the specific fee is not mentioned.

However, Spurs would prefer a transfer this summer to acquire the relevant funds straight away, while they could block a move altogether if their demands are not met.

Spurs Web Opinion

Tottenham have outlined their demands regarding Emerson this summer and considering he has another four years left on his contract, the ball is in Atletico’s court now.

Judging by the latest development, it seems Spurs won’t be afraid to pull away from a deal if it doesn’t suit them which is completely fair enough.
