Report reveals update on Spurs and Chelsea Coutinho race – One club already in talks

Chelsea are already said to be in negotiations over a move for Tottenham target, Philippe Coutinho, according to Sport (as relayed by Sport Witness).

With Bayern Munich reportedly not willing to exercise their option to buy at the end of Coutinho’s loan period in Germany, the former Liverpool star has been linked with both Tottenham and Chelsea (Mirror).

His agent, Kia Joorabchian, has revealed that the 27-year-old would be open to a return to the Premier League (Sky Sports).

Sport now reports that, despite Jose Mourinho’s interest in bringing Coutinho to North London, Chelsea is the midfielder’s most likely destination.

The Blues are said to be in negotiations with the Catalan giants for Coutinho and it is suggested that they are more willing to complete a permanent deal than the Lilywhites.

However, the report does suggest that Barcelona are desperate to get rid of the midfielder and they would thus be willing to sanction a loan deal with a mandatory buying clause of €65 million.

Spurs Web Opinion

Barcelona will likely have to bring their price down if they hope to get rid of Coutinho. I don’t think we will get him as he won’t be seen as a priority signing for us this summer, compared to defensive additions and a backup striker. So we are unlikely to spend as much on him as Chelsea are.
