Report reveals update on Tottenham’s rumoured pursuit of Malinovskyi

According to L’Equipe (as relayed by GFFN), Tottenham Hotspur have pulled out of the race for Atalanta midfielder Ruslan Malinovskyi.

Tottenham are expected to sign an attacker to replace Bryan Gil, with Gennaro Gattuso confirming over the weekend that Spurs will allow the winger to return to the Mestalla on loan once they secure a replacement (90 min).

Malinovskyi had been mooted as a target for the Lilywhites, with reports from Italy over the last couple of weeks suggesting that the Atalanta star wishes to join Spurs before the transfer window shuts (TuttoMercatoWeb).

Reports over recent weeks had also indicated that Marseille were eyeing a late deal for the Ukrainian (Foot Mercato).

If L’Equipe’s latest update is to be believed, the Ligue 1 club have now moved into pole position for the race for Malinovskyi’s signature as Tottenham have ended their pursuit of the Atalanta man.

The report claims that although the 29-year-old preference was to join the North London club, he has also given his approval to join Marseille, and the French club have now stepped up their efforts to land him before Thursday’s deadline.

Spurs Web Opinion

Among all the attacking players we had been linked with over the past two weeks, I thought Malinovskyi was the most realistic target since he would be able to cover for multiple positions and probably accepting of a bit-part role.

However, if it is true that Spurs have abandoned their pursuit of the Ukrainian, it is anybody’s guess who will sign as Gil’s replacement. I would not be surprised if we make a late bid for Adama Traore, given that the winger has just 12 months left on his contract with Wolves.
