Report reveals what Jose Mourinho likes about Spurs’ Japhet Tanganga

The Athletic have named Japhet Tanganga as Tottenham Hotspur’s Young Player of the Season for the 2019/20 campaign.

The young centre-back was thrown in at the deep end when Jose Mourinho trusted him with a full Premier League debut against a rampant Liverpool side.

Within two minutes, the academy graduate had blocked a shot off the line and helped to clear another Liverpool attempt, thus rewarding the Special One’s faith in him.

Tanganga has gone on to become a semi-regular player under Mourinho, playing in the centre of defence, but also covering at both right-back and left-back. The 21-year-old has now featured 11 times for the Lilywhites this season (Wikipedia).

The Athletic claim that Mourinho is a fan of Tanganga’s worth ethic and desire to improve in North London, while they also call back to the Portuguese head coach’s first training session.

Mourinho could be seen pointing Tanganga out to his coaching staff and saying, ‘He marked Cristiano Ronaldo, make him known’.
