Report reveals what Kane could do if Spurs decide not to sell him this summer

The Athletic’s David Ornstein has now claimed that if Daniel Levy blocks Harry Kane from leaving Tottenham in the summer, the striker could decide not to leave in the summer of 2023 and instead depart as a free agent at the end of his deal.

It was reported last week that Kane wants assurances Tottenham will back Antonio Conte in the transfer market before committing his future to the club (The Sun).

Ornstein has now backed up that claim, explaining that the striker wants to assess the club’s progress before deciding on his future.

He reveals that Kane was offered a new deal by Spurs but the proposal was rejected, with Tottenham not planning on making another approach for the time being.

Ornstein states that there is an acceptance at Spurs that the ball is in Kane’s court and that the England captain would have to make the first move if talks over a new contract are to begin.

The journalist further adds that if Kane leans towards leaving in the summer and Levy’s stance does not change, the 28-year-old will look to see out his contract at Spurs and leave as a free agent aged 31 in 2024.

If Kane decides not to sign a new contract before the summer, it would be in Tottenham’s best interest to cash in on him and reinvest the money into the squad.

Realistically, next summer would be the final window where we can get decent money for the striker. Clubs might be willing to pay £100m for the 28-year-old despite him having two years left on his contract.

Hopefully, the striker is convinced of Tottenham’s project under Conte and decides to put pen to paper on a new deal.
