Report reveals what Mourinho has to do to keep Spurs job

According to The Daily Mail, Tottenham Hotspur could sack Jose Mourinho if the club fail to finish in the top four this season.

The Europa League appeared to be Tottenham’s best route to secure Champions League qualification but the embarrassing 3-0 loss to Dinamo Zagreb on Thursday has left the North Londoners needing to finish in the top four to make it back into Europe’s premier club competition next season.

The Mail claims that Mourinho’s position at Spurs is now under more internal scrutiny following their elimination from the Europa League.

The report reveals that missing out on the Champions League qualification for a second consecutive season would come as a major financial blow for the club and Tottenham could decide to pull the plug on Mourinho.

It is suggested that RB Leipzig’s Julian Nagelsmann is the club’s number one target should they decide to part ways with Mourinho and while Brendan Rodgers is also said to be on Spurs’ radar, it is said that moving for the Leicester boss is likely to prove complicated.

The report claims that if Mourinho is to be sacked, Spurs could put the Portuguese coach on gardening leave instead of giving him a full pay-off, thus continuing to pay his salary until he gets another job, just as they did with Mauricio Pochettino.

Levy has demonstrated time and again over the last decade that he is not afraid to pull the plug in case the club misses out on the Champions League. Irrespective of what happens in the Carabao Cup final, it is difficult to see Jose staying if we finish outside the top four.
